My Journey to Healing

Growing up in a single-parent home, I watched my mother work 12 to 16-hour shifts to provide for us. She traded her time for survival, leaving little energy for emotional support. Without access to creative activities, I was left to find my own way, feeling exposed and lost. When I became a mother at just twelve years old, the weight of shame and loneliness felt impossible to carry.

I learned to heal by pouring my pain into writing books and poetry. Singing and dancing became my tools for stayin alive while I discovered who I was. This hard journey taught me the power of art to mend even the deepest wounds.

I created Girls and the Arts so no girl has to feel that alone while she is figuring out who she is.
